Conforma Clad#s origins date back to 1968 in New Port, Delaware where it began as Composite Sciences, Inc. It was here where the original formulations for producing tungsten carbide cloth were patented.
Development continued through most of the 70#s and in 1980, the patent rights were purchased by Gould. In 1981, Imperial Clevite, Inc. purchased Gould#s Industrial Products Group and the following year, the first tungsten carbide clad parts were produced.
Beginning in 1984, dedicated production equipment and processes were put in place to meet the ever-expanding market requirements.
In 1989, Conforma Clad became a separate operating division of The Pullman Company, where the company continued to operate as a tungsten carbide cladding provider to original equipment manufacturers and component suppliers.
The company changed its strategy in 1992 by expanding from simply a cladding operation to a full service severe wear solutions provider, complete with engineering design and machining capabilities.
Through most of the 90#s Conforma Clad continued to perfect its tungsten carbide formulas, cloth applications and infiltration brazing processes.
Beginning in 1996, Conforma Clad focused on streamlining its operations and implementing advanced quality procedures. Today, Conforma Clad Inc., is located in a modern industrial park in New Albany, Indiana. Conforma Clad is an investor-owned company with over 100 employees in a state-of-the-art production facility.
