Maintenance
Effectively maintaining an industrial plant is essential to the bottom line and safety success of an operating plant. Maintenance is the science of correcting problems and wear and tear before it shuts down an operating unit. If not maintained effectively, equipment breakdowns can have significant impact on the profitability of an industrial plant. These unscheduled shutdowns cost in production reductions, loss of feedstocks, ruined expensive equipment, increased labor costs and reduced operating yields. In order to minimize the cost of unscheduled downtime from equipment failure, industrial plants perform Preventative Maintenance to prevent equipment breakdown. Preventative maintenance includes routinely inspecting and servicing of equipment that is prone to wear, tear or fouling. These inspections are scheduled on a certain calendar frequency or based on the running time of the equipment being maintained. Typically, these procedures include recording data that can be used to evaluate the condition of the equipment and thus help in determining the next maintenance operation and when it should be performed.
